Spring is just around the corner and with it comes the wonderful color palette of nature! Why not bring beauty and character to your garden with a lovely outdoor project all the way from down under. Our stockist Shani Smith of Restor’d in New South Wales, Australia shares how Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan helped her to create the look of antique garden pots that look like they “have been aging gracefully in European gardens over hundreds of years.”
Let’s see how Shani transformed ordinary plastic pots from a local gardening store into authentic looking English garden pieces with a bit of creativity and color!
First, a coat of Country Grey Chalk Paint® was applied to create a neutral base to start with. Feel free to use any other neutral color readily available such as Old White, Old Ochre, French Linen or Cream.
Next, a mixture of Olive & Florence was created for an earthy green color. Sherri added some sand and dirt into her mix for an added rustic effect!
For the finishing touch, washes of Olive, Primer Red, and Provence were applied in a “drip”-like manner to create the look of naturally weathered patina. Since Chalk Paint® is perfect for outdoor use, there’s no need to seal your new pots and the matte finish will only add to the authentic look and feel. Remember, for outdoor pieces, Annie Sloan Soft Wax is not recommended.
We’re in love with the transformation and hope it has inspired you to get creative in your garden this spring. Follow the link below for more via The Palette Blog and let us know if you decide to give this look a try!
