This story will make you truly believe in miracles. While out for her morning walk, a woman discovered a newborn baby that had been left in a storm drain. Hearing the baby’s cry, she investigated the situation. The woman’s discovery saved the child, who was abandoned six feet underground, naked with the umbilical cord still attached, beside a colony of stinging red ants in a freezing drain. How the baby survived these conditions is truly miraculous.
She took swift action, waving down cars that passed by to see if she could get help. A man pulled over and listened to the sound coming from the drain as well, before grabbing a steel bar from his car which the two of them used to remove the concrete slab covering the storm drain. He then went six feet down and was stung by the red ants on his legs as he attempted to get the baby.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, the man explained the rescue mission, saying: “I got into the hole it was higher than my head and it was so narrow that I had to go down on my knees and I couldn’t bend over so had to feel down for the baby below.”
He continued: “The red ants were stinging my legs but then I felt this baby’s leg and then saw the baby and I realized that this was a crime scene so I took a flash picture and handed my phone up to Charmaine.”
He added: “I just do not know why anyone could do this to a newborn baby but was just so glad that we were able to help her and save her life. I told Charmaine to call the emergency services right away.”
Police and an ambulance arrived on the scene and paramedics were able to treat the baby for hypothermia before rushing her to the hospital for further treatment.
Charmaine further explained that she believed her walk by the storm drain was no accident, saying: “I honestly believe I was meant to find that baby by God as I usually take a different route on my dog walk but for some reason went another way. I cannot help but feel that there is some sort of a plan and a purpose for that little girl’s life — it is a miracle without a doubt.”
The hospital staff named the baby Grace April. It’s believed that she was lying there for two hours before she was found.
April is now doing much better in the care of the hospital staff, but her parents have yet to be identified.
