Galvanized tub accessories add whimsical fun to any outdoor barbecue or picnic (and look a lot more polished than traditional coolers too). And one thrifty DIY blogger, Stephanie of The Tip Toe Fairy, saved not only time, but also money, when deciding to craft her own “metal” tub from plastic containers she purchased at the dollar store.
“I love the look of a galvanized tub full of drinks,” the DIY blogger states. “They’re a great addition to any summer barbecue. But, I didn’t have one or even know where to get one.” Therefore, Stephanie decided to make her own mini versions of the item using cheap green tubs from the dollar store.
After finding small plastic tubs at a dollar store, the blogger applied two layers of metallic-silver spray paint with a hammered texture.
Within hours, her tubs were ready for a barbecue — and you’d never know they weren’t actually metal!

Most galvanized tubs serve as feed or water vessels for farm and ranch animals. However, they’ve proved useful through the years in outdoor activities, such as fall apple bobbing. These days, the handy tubs also serve as decorative landscaping items, including use as planters.
