Teen Has No Clue His Dad Is Home Early From Deployment To Surprise Him, Mom Films Reunion

You’ll want to have the tissues handy for this story. A Texas teen’s dad made a surprise appearance, returning home from the military to visit his son at his football practice at Andrews High School. The reunion was beyond emotional for the 15-year-old, who was completely surprised and overwhelmed. The dad credits the boy’s mother with making this happen, saying, “she planned it,” with his wife explaining, “It was weeks of planning and trying not to slip.”

The boy’s father added,

“just to know that I’m here, I won’t have to be away from them, no more deployments, watch my oldest be able to finish high school and graduate, watch my two younger ones continue to grow.”

In the video, dad is seen standing quietly behind the football players, as he explained how the surprise unfolded:

“Walking out, just emotions going crazy, nervous, but at the end of the day, it was well worth it.”

He’s then seen stepping out in front of his son, who clearly has no idea that his father is there. The boy looks up to see his dad, while the other players clap during the emotional moment, as the two embrace.

His son noted,

“I don’t know how to describe it. I was like, ‘oh my gosh, my dad’s home today.’ I thought he’d be home next month because that’s what he’s been saying. And I just went into shock.” The tears flowed as they said “I love you” to each other and hugged again.

His dad added, “I love him. I would do anything for him, I’m here for him and I can’t wait to see him.”

Many people commented on the YouTube video of the reunion, with notes such as: “BEAUTIFUL VIDEO! Thank you for sharing. I always love watching these” and “This made me cry a little, my brother is in the military and I haven’t seen him for months.”

Others thanked the father for his service, with comments such as: “Thank you for serving our country Sgt. Beautiful video!!! God Bless you!!” and “Thanks for your service and bless your family, stay well, safe and healthy all of you.”

Many commenters were definitely emotional over the video, with one person joking: “It seems YouTube has a new feature where they send someone to cut onions in your room.”

Others weighed in on those who gave the video a thumbs down, with one commenter noting: “who ever didn’t like this really does not have a heart.”

Among those who weighed in with responses on the CBS 7 News Facebook post about the reunion were the following comments: “Awesome story! Thanks for your service ‘dad!’ And ‘son’ you have a real life hero!” and “What a joyful reunion! This young man will always know the value of his father because of the sacrifice his dad and the family have made for our country.”
